During his visit to Côte d’Ivoire in April 2022, the Director of ANRS-MIE (French National Agency for Research on AIDS and Emerging Infectious Diseases), Mr. Yazdan Yazdanpana met with Côte d’Ivoire’s Ministers of Health and Research, to discuss the PACCI Program and the prospects for this partnership, which for over 30 years has brought together French and Ivorian researchers and produces excellent results each year in the field of research on HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, viral hepatitis, Ebola, and COVID-19. Given its national and international scope, this program positions Côte d’Ivoire and France as joint leaders in research on HIV/AIDS and threatening infectious diseases with high epidemic potential.
During this meeting, they agreed to renew the agreement governing this partnership in order to optimize its operation and enable it to adapt to the new challenges posed by emerging diseases. After taking the time to flesh out these objectives, the ANRS-MIE drafted a proposal for this agreement, striving to incorporate all the elements discussed. The PACCI Program and ANRS-MIE are organizing scientific conferences on January 23 and 24, 2023. These conferences, which have been held every two years for the past 20 years, are open to a wide range of stakeholders in health and research, members of public health institutions, and representatives of civil society. Participants in this event will include the Director of ANRS-MIE, Mr. Yazdan Yazdanpana; the President and CEO of IRD (Institute for Research and Development), Ms. Valérie Verdier, the President of INSERM (National Institute of Health and Medical Research), Mr. Gilles Bloch, and the President of the University of Bordeaux, Mr. Dean Lewis.
This event, which is both scientific and strategic, will provide an opportunity to take stock of the current state of Franco-Ivorian research and discuss its future prospects, as well as to formalize the renewal of the Franco-Ivorian scientific partnership and sign this new agreement in the presence of all relevant stakeholders.
