Our Identity

The PAC-CI program is a research center with the status of a “nongovernmental organization (NGO),” established in 1996 as a result of cooperation between Côte d’Ivoire and France. This research center is governed by an agreement between these two countries, with:

  1. For Côte d’Ivoire: the Ministry of Health and Public Hygiene, the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and the Ministry of Economy and Finance
  2. For France: the National Agency for Research on HIV/AIDS and Viral Hepatitis (ANRS-REACTING), the National Institute of Health and Medical Research (INSERM), the University of Bordeaux, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Since its inception, the PAC-CI program has been a leader in the field of health research, with research projects on the HIV/AIDS epidemic, viral hepatitis, maternal and child health, tuberculosis, and, more recently, infectious diseases with endemic potential (including viral hemorrhagic fevers and COVID-19).

Our mission is to:

  1. Conduct health research whose findings will benefit infected and affected populations
  2. Promote the training of health professionals in medical research

The PAC-CI program takes a multidisciplinary approach, drawing on clinical sciences, epidemiology and public health, biology, demography, sociology, anthropology, applied economics, and statistical modeling to understand population health issues and propose solutions.

Academic and technical training is a major focus of our organization, targeting both master’s and doctoral students as well as research support staff.
