Final Inspections of FISSA Sites

After two (2) years of operations, the FISSA (Fever in Sub-Saharan Africa) study sites have completed participant enrollment and follow-up. The FISSA study, conducted as part of the ALERRT Consortium (African Coalition for Epidemic Research Response and Training), aimed to document the epidemiology, clinical aspects, and management of febrile illnesses in sub-Saharan Africa. Teams from FISSA’s regional and international coordination offices visited the sites to carry out the final closure procedures.

From June 13 to 18, 2022, the purpose of these visits was to verify and archive essential study documents, review all consent forms, confirm that corrections requested in the latest communications to the sites had been implemented, and gather feedback from the teams to improve the implementation of any future studies. This mission was carried out by Ms. Suzanne Kouadio, also known as Aunt Suze (Regional Clinical Research Assistant), Dr. Kouamé Menan Gérard (International Project Manager), and Dr. Anani Badjé (WP1 ALERRT Coordinator).

The first stage of this series of wrap-up meetings took place at the Saint Francis Xavier Hospital in Assin Fosu, approximately two hours from Kumasi. This site is supervised by KCCR (Kumasi Center for Collaborative Research), a partner of the ALERRT Consortium.
