Secondary Objectives
Secondary Objective 1: To assess changes in the rate of health facility visits by pregnant women with a gestational age of less than 20 weeks from the last menstrual period;
Secondary Objective 2: Assess trends in the coverage rate of the four prenatal care visits (CPN) during pregnancy.
Secondary Objective 3: Assess trends in the rate of medically assisted deliveries;
Secondary Objective 4: Estimate the incidence and associated factors of severe and moderate acute malnutrition among children aged 6 to 23 months, and reduce it;
Secondary objective 5: Estimate the incidence and associated factors of mortality among children aged 6 to 23 months, and reduce it.
Description & Context
Non-comparative prospective cohorts (i) of mother-child pairs followed from prenatal visits through the child’s second birthday (1,000-day cohort); (ii) of children aged 0 to 6 months with no information on the pregnancy and followed through their second birthday (700 days). The study aims to evaluate the effect of a comprehensive care package provided during a child’s first 1,000 days on the incidence of malnutrition among children aged 0 to 23 months in Niger.
Study Criteria
Inclusion
Inclusion criteria: pregnant women who meet the following criteria: (i) a positive pregnancy test and/or a positive fetal heartbeat detected using a Doppler fetoscope, or, failing that, a Pinard fetoscope, (ii) residing in one of the 42 villages in the Guirari health zone, or in villages outside the zone but adjacent to it (located within 5 km), and regularly visiting the CSI and health clinics in the Guirari health zone due to their proximity;
Exclusion
Exclusion criterion: Pregnant women with mental health disorders, for the 1,000-Day Cohort
