Created in 2019, the ALERRT project (African coalition for Epidemic Research, Response and Training) aims primarily to describe the epidemiology, clinical aspects, severity, management, and outcome of febrile diseases using data collected during routine diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
During this general assembly (GA) which brought together stakeholders from the 11 countries of the ALERRT consortium (Cameroon, Côte d'Ivoire, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Madagascar, Nigeria, Uganda, Central African Republic, Senegal, Tanzania) in Accra, the focus was on reviewing the consortium's activities, presenting preliminary results from the FISSA, CCP, Nested study, and Long COVID studies, and meeting with various consortium partners to discuss challenges, progress, and tangible impacts in the field of public health in Africa during these years of collaboration.
This GA provided an opportunity for these experts to update the status of various scientific articles, present the plan for sustaining the network and data sharing among different projects. New functionalities of the data management platform and the training platform to strengthen team capacities were explored.
Emphasis was also placed on ALERRT's overall impact with discussions for maintaining and future collaborations, particularly with the Mastercard Foundation and ISARIC.
Recommendations were made regarding the production of results from the FISSA, CCP, Nested study, and Long COVID studies, and the extension of the study for an additional year.
At the close of this meeting, participants commended the principal investigator of the ALERRT consortium and proposed Côte d'Ivoire to host the next GA in 2025.
