From June 10 to 13, 2024, the PAC-CI Program hosted a training seminar for the Abidjan-based monitoring team (in person) and the Bordeaux-based team (online). The goal was to enhance the knowledge, skills, and abilities of all team members to ensure the effective and efficient implementation of their assigned tasks.
Monitoring is a crucial function in the health research process. It involves overseeing the progress of a clinical study, ensuring the rights, safety, and protection of participants, and verifying that data is reported accurately, completely, and consistently. It also ensures that the study is conducted in accordance with the applicable protocol, procedures, good clinical practices, legal provisions, and regulatory requirements.
To strengthen their professional capabilities, participants focused on four activities: training actors on the role of the monitor, an introduction to clinical research, drafting the formalized research notebook or observation notebook, and on-site monitoring visits. They also engaged in Q&A sessions after each presentation, discussed challenges encountered during monitoring activities, and proposed innovations to improve monitoring. Notably, the Abidjan team received additional training on data (reporting and quality) from the IT Department during the seminar.
Furthermore, participants made recommendations to enhance their performance. In the presence of Dr. Anani Badjé, MEREVA Operational Director, who joined online from Bordeaux, Kouamé Antoine (Abidjan) and Beuscart Aurelie (Bordeaux), heads of the monitoring team, along with their colleagues, committed to applying these new skills through capacity building.
In conclusion, Dr. Badjé expressed satisfaction with the overall success of the activities, particularly the collaborative work between the two teams (Abidjan-Bordeaux). He commended the monitoring team for their excellent work and encouraged them to continue their efforts.
