From June 10 to 13, 2024, a training seminar was held at the PAC-CI Program offices for the Abidjan-based monitoring team (in person) and the Bordeaux-based team (online) to strengthen the knowledge, skills, and abilities of all team members to ensure the effective and efficient implementation of their assigned tasks.
A critical function in the health research process, monitoring is defined as the act of overseeing the progress of a clinical study and verifying that the rights, safety, and protection of study participants are respected; ensuring that data are reported accurately, completely, and consistently; and that the study is conducted in accordance with the current protocol, procedures, good clinical practices, legal requirements, and applicable regulations.
To enhance their professional capabilities, participants engaged in four activities: training on the role of the monitor, an introduction to clinical research, drafting the formalized study notebook or case report form, and an on-site monitoring visit. Each presentation was followed by an open question-and-answer session, a discussion of challenges encountered during monitoring activities, and the proposal of innovations to improve monitoring activities. The Abidjan team was also instructed on data reporting and quality by the IT team during the seminar.
Additionally, participants made recommendations to improve their performance in their roles. Indeed, with Dr. Anani Badjé, MEREVA Operations Director, joining online from Bordeaux, Kouamé Antoine (Abidjan) and Aurélie Beuscart (Bordeaux), Heads of the Monitoring Team and their colleagues, committed to applying these new skills through capacity building.
Finally, Dr. Badjé expressed his satisfaction with the overall success of the activities, particularly the collaborative work between the two sites (Abidjan-Bordeaux). He commended the monitoring team members for the quality of their work and encouraged them to continue in this direction.
