HR Development for the PAC-CI Program: Management is strengthening the capacity of the Monitoring Unit team to ensure high-quality service delivery.

From June 10 to 13, 2024, a training seminar was held at the PAC-CI Program’s offices for the monitoring team in Abidjan (in person) and the team in Bordeaux (online),with the aim of strengthening the knowledge, skills, and abilities of all team members to ensure the effective and efficient implementation of their assigned tasks.

Monitoring, an essential function in the health research process, is defined as the act of overseeing the conduct of a clinical trial and verifying that the rights, safety, and protection of the trial participants are respected; to ensure that data are reported accurately, completely, and consistently; and that the study is conducted in accordance with the current protocol, procedures, good clinical practices, legal provisions, and applicable regulatory requirements.

To strengthen their professional capabilities, participants engaged in four activities: training on the role of the monitor, an introduction to clinical research, drafting the formalized research log or observation log, and conducting on-site monitoring visits; a question-and-answer session and discussion following each presentation; a discussion of challenges encountered during monitoring activities; and proposals for innovations to improve monitoring activities. It should be noted that the Abidjan team also received training on data (reporting and quality) from the IT Department during this seminar.

In addition, participants made recommendations to improve their performance in their roles. In fact, in the presence of Dr. Anani Badjé, MEREVA’s Chief Operating Officer, who joined online from Bordeaux, Kouamé Antoine (Abidjan) and Beuscart Aurélie (Bordeaux), Heads of the Monitoring Division, along with their colleagues, committed to putting these lessons into practice through capacity-building efforts.

In closing, Dr. Badjé expressed his delight at the overall success of the activities, particularly the collaborative work between the two locations (Abidjan and Bordeaux). He congratulated the members of the Monitoring Unit team on the quality of their work and urged them to keep up the good work.
