Summary & Key Points

A flexible and efficient organization or business, regardless of sector, is defined by its ability to offer services or products that meet market or target population needs. The PAC-CI Programme, whose core business is health research, cannot avoid this management requirement. Indeed, one of its main missions is to carry out research projects to support decision-making and improve population health.

To this end, PAC-CI researchers must identify relevant research topics, write research proposals, and secure funding for implementation.

That is why the PAC-CI Programme’s Scientific Directorate organized a workshop bringing together all 19 of its researchers, including 2 who participated online. Held on August 12 and 13, 2024, in Grand-Bassam, the workshop aimed to prepare an effective response to upcoming funding opportunities.

Working in small groups, participants identified 18 research topics, which were narrowed down to three after review. Of the three selected topics, the first is nearly complete and ready for submission, the second is 70% complete, and the third remains under development due to its complexity and new thematic focus.

The workshop successfully achieved its goals—selecting relevant research topics, identifying potential funders, forming working groups, and drafting proposals—with all participants leaving satisfied.

Recommendations were also made: to sustain such activities (one to two times per year), prepare submissions for the September 15 funding opportunity for the completed project, continue work on unfinished projects, and strengthen partnerships with health programs to implement certain initiatives.
